The guy I like said he's not the boyfriend type...What to do?

I'm a virgin, and have no plans to change that any time soon. I recently came out of a long-term relationship, and have started hanging out with a guy I have always been somewhat attracted to, and I have always had a feeling he was attracted to me. Different comments and things have caused me through the years to be 100% sure that he is attracted to me as well, and now we are truly getting to know each other. Well, today when we were hanging out, came up. He knows I'm a virgin, and asked me why. I told him my beliefs on the issue (has to matter, and I would prefer marriage due to my religion) and that I will never be the hook up/casual type. He told me that it had to matter to him too, but he wasn't the "boyfriend type." Later when we were texting he told me I thought I was interested in him, and I turned it back on him by telling him that was funny since I though he liked me. And then we were at a drawl, I suppose you could say. I really like him, but how could this work? I won't compromise my beliefs, and he apparently doesn't do the whole relationship thing (no real surprise to me).
