Kona's Jake the Snake or Marin's Toscana?

Hey, I've just recently been introduced into the world of cycling. I really enjoy it very much and I'm ready to make the next move I guess you should say, which would be purchasing a good reliable bike. I don't wanna' break the bank with it, but I want one that's a decent quality. I want to do a lot of road riding while eventually taking it out trail riding. Nothing major just something to ride on let's say a 2 day camping excursion every now and then. I was told that a cyclocross cycle would be good for this conversion as to where all I would need is a change of tires and some gear adjustments. After looking around a while I think I've made my decision between either Kona's Jake the Snake or Marin's Toscana. Just looking for the opinion of riders who have been doing this longer than I have and would be willing to give some helpful hints. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
