Question to any Amazon Pro?

This may sound extremely dumb... that's because I've never used Amazon before, but here is my question: Could I buy a gift card for myself, then redeem it on my account and then purchase something? And also how does the shipping work? Do you need to sign the clipboard when they deliver it to you, or can you just let the delivery guy drop it off and ignore him/her when they ring the doorbell? Thanks!
