Why is my one year-old cat kneading and sucking on our comforter?

My boyfriend and I adopted a cat that is about a year old a little over a month ago from the Humane Society. He was found as a stray and is neutered and lives with us and a large dog. Lately, he has been kneading and sucking on our blankets a lot. What does this mean?
