How to Sharpen A Knife Made out of Bone?

I recently bought a knife made out of bone. the blade is dull but the point is sharp. Now i come to my problem. i have a regular knife sharpener but im reluctant to use it on my bone knife because it was intended for metal. if i use it on my knife will it damage or weaken the blade? or should i even bother sharpening it?
